5 Days Pian Upe and Kidepo is an amazing adventure that combines two places both still raw with beautiful scenery and known for their unique wildlife, amazing landscapes, diverse ecosystems and culture. Pian Upe is the 2nd largest protected area in Uganda after Murchison Falls National Park and this game reserve recognized destination and Kidepo is a rare gem rich in diversity compared to other parks in Uganda.  The two places will give you a chance to see animals like lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, waterbucks, kobs, mountain reedbucks, oribi, zebras, impalas, serval cats, civets, jackals, spotted hyenas, wildebeests, rhinos and wild dogs; primates like olive baboons, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, de brazza’s monkeys, grey checked mangabeys and chimpanzees; and birds like dark chanting goshawk, red and yellow barbet, kori bustard, ostriches, little bee-eaters, karamoja apalis, pygmy falcon, golden pipit, Jackson’s hornbill, secretary bird, dusky turtle dove, African hill babbler, egrets and herons. There is enough wildlife to make for a special experience. The trip will start in Kampala to Kidepo to Pian Upe and back to Kampala.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 of four, you will meet our driver guide from Glory Summit tours at an agreed spot who will brief on the next few days and how the trip will run. After that, you will set off for Kidepo which is 8-9hours. For ease and comfort, you will have a few stops for stretching, picture taking and lunch in Gulu. You will get to Kidepo in the evening, check into your lodge, have dinner and rest after the long journey so you can be fresh for the next day and enjoy what Kidepo has to offer.

Day 2, you will wake up and have an early breakfast, then will be picked by the driver guide for your morning dame drive. The driver will give you a chance to encounter lions, zebras, buffaloes, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes and kobs for about 2-3hours. You will return to the lodge after the drive for lunch, after lunch you will head out for a community tour of the IK people and engage with them. Learn about their culture, lifestyle, history, building Manyatta homesteads with entertainment through dance, music and drama which will take about 3hours and you will head back to the lodge. You will have dinner and retire for the night.

You will wake up, check out of your lodging then have breakfast after which you will exit Kidepo for Pian Upe. This journey will take about 6hours and keep an eye out for lions, elephants, giraffes, and more as you traverse the park. With one stopover for lunch, you will proceed to Pian Upe and arrive in the evening. Just in time to check into your lodging and an early dinner. You will retire at will as you prepare for another lovely day.

After enjoying your breakfast, you will be picked by the driver guide and head out into the reserve for your game drive to the savannah plains in search of the reserves residents like cheetahs, roan antelopes, elands, zebras, hartebeests, oribis, kobs, buffaloes, dik dik, duikers and more for about 2-3 hours. Once done, you will head back to your lodging and rest for a little while as you wait for lunch. When lunch is done, you will head out into the Karamojong community for your tour.  With a local guide you will be able to learn about their culture, way of living, tradition, and dress code and visit their manyatas, plus you will enjoy some music, dance and drama which will also tell a story about the community. You can also partake in some crafting as its one of the ways the community members survive as it’s a source of income. You will head back to the lodging in the evening, have your dinner and rest at will after your beautiful day.

You will wake up and have breakfast then checkout of your lodge, and exit the park for Kampala which will take about 7-8hours. As you enjoy the beautiful views, you will have a few stopovers for stretching and lunch in Mbale then continue to Kampala at an agreed point which will mark the end of the trip.
